You’re getting multiple storm notifications mostly because Storm Hedge is enabled, the NWS issues repeated/upgraded alerts, or your notification settings are too broad.
Why they keep coming
-
Multiple NWS alerts for the same storm
The National Weather Service often issues a watch → warning → update → expiration sequence. Each triggers a separate app notification.
Common triggers: Severe Thunderstorm, Tornado, Storm Surge, Red Flag, etc.
-
Your Storm Hedge settings have many alert types enabled
If you turned on all weather warning sliders (Settings → Storm Hedge → Weather Warnings), every advisory triggers a notice.
-
Location or zone updates
The NWS may redefine your county/zone, sending new alerts for the same weather.
-
System behavior during the event
You may also see extra messages when:
-
The system enters Emergency Backup mode
-
The battery starts charging to 100%
-
The alert is extended, canceled, or expires
How to reduce them
-
Tweak Storm Hedge alerts
Go to Settings → Storm Hedge → Weather Warnings and disable the types you don’t care about (e.g., “Ashfall Warning,” “Snow Squall Warning”).
-
Check your device notification settings
Make sure your phone isn’t set to “repeat alerts” for the app.
-
Temporarily pause Storm Hedge
If you want no storm notifications, toggle Storm Hedge off (you’ll lose automatic storm prep).
Example of normal notification flow
-
2:15 PM – Severe Thunderstorm Watch
-
3:40 PM – Severe Thunderstorm Warning
-
4:05 PM – Storm Hedge activated (battery charging)
-
5:30 PM – Warning expires (system resumes normal mode)
If you’re getting more than 4–5 notifications per storm and they feel excessive, it’s likely your alert selection is too broad.
