The Self-Consumption Mode，Time-of-Use (ToU) schedule delivers the maximum electric bill savings for most FranklinWH users.

This mode prioritizes using free solar power to run your home loads first, then stores excess solar generation in the battery for later use. It only draws power from the grid when solar and battery are insufficient, and exports surplus energy to the grid for credits when rates are favorable. For the highest savings, input your local utility’s ToU rate schedule in the FranklinWH App: the system will automatically charge the battery from low-cost off-peak grid power (when solar is unavailable) and discharge exclusively during high-rate peak periods to avoid premium pricing.

Other operating modes prioritize different goals over daily bill savings:

Keeps the battery fully charged for outages at all times. It rarely discharges for daily use, so you will rely mostly on grid power and earn minimal savings.

Temporarily locks the battery at 100% charge in preparation for forecasted severe weather. No bill savings are generated during the active Storm Hedge period.

Provides additional bill credits or cash incentives for participating in grid dispatch events. For maximum total savings, combine this with optimized Self-Consumption Mode for non-event days.

Pro tip: Adjust your battery reserve percentage to the lowest level you are comfortable with for backup (the default 20% works for most households) to free up more battery capacity for daily bill-saving use.
