Yes, you can use a portable or standby generator with your FranklinWH system, but it must be done properly and safely following official guidelines.
- FranklinWH systems support generator input for backup power during long grid outages. You can run the generator to power your home and charge the aPower battery at the same time.
- The generator will connect to the generator module option in aGate unit, or the aHub dock. Never connect a generator directly to your home electrical panel. Improper DIY wiring risks electrocution, equipment damage, and safety hazards.
- Only use a generator with stable clean power output; low-quality inverter generators are recommended to avoid harming the battery and inverter.
- When the grid is down, the generator will be started automatically, or manually. The system will automatically prioritize powering critical loads and recharging the battery.
- Do not overload the generator. Match the generator’s rated wattage to your home’s essential load size to avoid tripping protections or system shutdowns.
