No Export means the system is configured to not send any excess PV power back to the utility grid. All solar generation can only be used for home loads + battery charging; no grid export is allowed, complying with HECO CSS, NEM+, California NEM-MT and similar utility tariffs.
1.PV Generation & Curtailment Behavior
-
Once the battery is fully charged (100% SOC) and home load is low, the system automatically curtails or disconnects PV strings (opens PV relay) to prevent surplus power from exporting to the grid.
-
Non-export PV strings will never feed power to the grid, even during peak solar production.
-
Inverter may activate frequency droop / voltage-based curtailment to locally reduce PV output instead of exporting.
2. Battery Charging Logic
-
PV power first supplies household loads; remaining power goes to charge the battery.
-
Battery charging priority is locked; excess PV cannot flow to the grid.
-
When battery is full, charging stops immediately, and PV is curtailed to avoid any export.
3. Relay & Inverter Operation
-
AC PV relay will open frequently during midday high sun + full battery to block export.
-
Legacy/third-party AC PV inverters are forced to limit output via aGate PV relay open and frequency droop.
-
DC PV MPPT will reduce power output to match only load + charging demand.
4. Grid-Tied Mode Behavior
-
System blocks all reverse power flow to the grid.
-
If PV production exceeds on-site consumption + battery charging capacity, the system must curtail PV—cannot push excess to grid.
-
Compliance strictly follows utility non-export tariff rules, no accidental export allowed.
5. Backup / Off-Grid Mode Behavior
-
No Export setting still applies; the system runs self-consumption only.
-
PV still prioritizes home loads and battery charging.
-
Overgeneration still triggers PV relay open and curtailment to protect against overvoltage/overfrequency (same logic as grid-tied no-export).
6. Energy & Economic Impact
-
No credit for grid export (fits non-export utility plans).
-
Higher self-consumption rate of solar energy.
-
More frequent PV curtailment at noon when battery is full and load is low.
Summary Key Points
-
No excess PV power is allowed to export to the grid.
-
PV is automatically curtailed/relay-opened when battery full and load is low.
-
PV power is restricted to only home load + battery charging use.
-
Applies in both grid-tied and backup mode, following utility tariff rules.
-
Causes more frequent PV curtailment and relay switching compared to export-enabled setups.
