Efficiency Maine Small Battery Program

What is the Efficiency Maine Small Battery Program?

The Efficiency Maine Small Battery Program is a grid services initiative in Maine that rewards homeowners for sharing capacity from their FranklinWH aPower batteries to support a more resilient electric grid.

The program is administered by Efficiency Maine, with FranklinWH serving as a program partner for its customers. Each program year runs from April 1 through March 31, and the program term is 10 years. To participate, homeowners must be FranklinWH customers in Maine, and their FranklinWH System must be interconnected in accordance with local utility guidelines. Program terms and conditions can be found here.

How Do
the Incentives Work?

Eligible homeowners with an existing or new FranklinWH System can earn incentives by allowing their batteries to discharge during periods of high electricity demand.

There will be a maximum of 60 events per year, with at least two events per month. Each event lasts three hours and is typically called on weekdays between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Efficiency Maine pays program partners $200 per kW, based on the average power delivered by the battery fleet across all event hours during the program season.

FranklinWH homeowners are compensated based on their individual contributions, minus program administration costs, with expected earnings of up to $600 per aPower 2 or aPower S per year assuming full participation.
