Battery Program

Get Rewarded for Helping to
Build an Energy Resilient New York!

program intro

What Is
the Orange & Rockland
Utilities Smart Savers
Battery Program?

The Smart Savers Battery Program is a grid services initiative from Orange & Rockland Utilities (ORU) in New York that rewards homeowners for sharing their FranklinWH aPower battery capacity to support a more resilient electric grid. ORU customers can earn upfront and performance-based incentives by allowing their batteries to discharge during periods of high electricity demand.

During the program season, from May 1 through September 30, FranklinWH customers can earn $50 per kW, based on the average kilowatt output delivered by their battery system across all events and hours in the virtual power plant (VPP) season, in addition to the upfront NYSERDA Residential Energy Storage Incentive. The Smart Savers Battery Program helps reduce peak electricity demand, lower air pollution, and decrease overall energy costs for the community.

How Do
the Incentives Work?

Homeowners in ORU territories are eligible for the NYSERDA Residential Energy Storage Incentive, which offers up to $200 per kWh installed.

For a FranklinWH System with a single aPower 2 or aPower S, this could amount to an approximately $3,000 upfront incentive. Additionally, during the program season (May 1 - September 30), enrolled customers will earn $50 per kW based on the average kW production delivered by the system across all hours and events during the program season.

Incentive amounts vary depending on the power capacity of the system and the average performance throughout the season. For more information, please contact ORU.
