Main Load Relay for Black Start

Improve black start reliability, the ability to restart your FranklinWH System during an extended blackout, while the grid has not yet been restored.

Black Start: Restart Your System During Outages

During prolonged grid outages, batteries will run out of power when solar production is halted at night or when there is heavy cloud cover. That means a home energy management system may run out of power and shut down. A black start recognizes the return of solar production and automatically resumes home supply.

Main Load Relay Improves Black Start Success

The FranklinWH System provides black start function, but instantly supplying home power demands may drain the batteries and again shut down the system. To help improve black start success rates, homeowners should shut down non-essential devices while waiting for power to return, or may use the optional FranklinWH Main Load Relay to automatically disconnect the loads until the aPower batteries are charged sufficiently to power the home.

Store Energy to Support Home Power Demands

After solar is restored, the relay prevents power supply to home loads until the battery is charged to 10% SOC. At that point, the relay reconnects all the household loads, returning power to your home while continuing to recharge the battery, even while the grid is still down.
